Crafting Realistic Avatars with Advanced Rigging Techniques
My role in Dove’s Real Virtual Beauty campaign was both creatively inspiring and technically challenging. I led the full rigging process for three distinct CG characters: the monster, game Cinthia, and real Cinthia. This involved building advanced deformation systems for their bodies, hair clothing and armour, ensuring lifelike movement and believable interactions. Despite limited resources on time for simulations, I developed custom hair control solutions to optimise animation quality and streamline production workflows. These technical innovations were essential for capturing the emotional depth of the story while maintaining the campaign’s focus on authenticity and inclusivity.
Collaborating with Passion Pictures and againtstallodds on this project was an incredible experience. Bringing Cinthia’s story to life required balancing artistic intent with technical rigging expertise. Every detail, from the nuanced movements of Cinthia’s armour to the expressive subtleties of her hair, was crafted with precision to reflect the campaign’s message of empowerment.
The rigging process was not just about functionality but also about amplifying the animators’ ability to portray a strong, relatable character breaking free from hyper-sexualised stereotypes. This seamless integration of technical and creative elements remains one of my proudest achievements.

The Real Virtual Beauty campaign resonates deeply due to its focus on promoting diversity and redefining female representation in gaming. Through research-backed insights, the project highlighted the need for change, and my technical contributions helped deliver this message in a tangible, impactful way. Seeing Cinthia transform from a virtual construct into a relatable symbol of empowerment was both moving and fulfilling.
The work I did in rigging and animation enabled the campaign’s bold narrative to shine, making this project a standout in my career and a significant milestone in redefining female imagery in gaming.
